COLLEGES | funding

FUNDING for residential and day students at a Camphill specialist college of further education comes from the Learning and Skills Council (LSC), the public body responsible for planning and funding education and training.

Following acceptance of a place by a student and his or her parents, the assessments made during the application procedure are used to gauge the student's support needs according to LSC guidelines. The college also writes an individual learning programme for the student which will form the basis of the contract between the college and the LSC.

The student's Connexions adviser then applies for the funding which is usually, but not always, for two years. If it is decided at an annual review that a third year might be appropriate for a student, the college may apply for an extension of funding.

In exceptional circumstances, when a student will benefit from further years, funding can be sought from a variety of sources including social services, benefits and private means.
